Farewells:
Godwin who has headed up the lab for a number of years has moved on to work in Kampala and we also said goodbye to Dr. Lynne, our visiting UK Paediatric Registrar who has helped greatly with training in child health and support of our interns. She had worked in Kisiizi for five or six months and will be missed. Lots of other visitors pass through for various lengths of time – we have had 4 medical students from western Australia and have just welcomed one from Germany and another from Iceland. We also thanks Charlie and Cecelia from New Zealand who came for two months during which Charlie supported our Mental Health team and Cecelia took a lot of photographs and will produce a book that will be available for purchase in due course. It will be called “A World of Difference: Portraits from Kisiizi Hospital”.
Our primary school also had a cake to say goodbye to a group from Malmo in Sweden. This is the tenth year of the link with them which has proved mutually beneficial.
The Ugandan pupil in the photo is Daphine who achieved the highest possible marking grades in the national primary school leaving exams.
Then we said goodbye to Reverend Patrick Bagorogo and his wife Karen after many years of faithful service.
We are pleased to have welcomed Francis Orishaba, our new in-charge of the lab and Sister Ruth, back from ultrasound training in Kampala to join our imaging team.
We have had links with the Uganda Maternal and Newborn Hub for a couple of years with various workers assigned to Kisiizi for different lengths of time. We are very happy to welcome Drs. Dash and Emily, Anaesthetic Registrar and General Practitioner respectively, to the team. They will be with us until at least July. Dash is working with Gershom and the anaesthetic team and will also help as we seek to develop high dependency care. Emily has been supporting maternity and will also help introduce triage to our newly modified out-patient department as we open up a new Accident and Emergency area.

e also received with joy our new Chaplain, Reverend Joshua Bwebale and his wife Jocelyn.
